About Me
I am a professional musician who’s been performing, teaching, and transcribing music for 35 years.
I received my degree in music theory and music performance after attending Musician’s Institute and McNally Smith College of Music in the 1980s.
As a performer it is part of my job to learn cover songs note for note. Before the the Internet and the “information age”, if you wanted to play a guitar part you had to listen to the album and learn it.
As a teacher, one of the most effective ways ways to keep a student engaged is to provide them that hold their unique interests. For some students it was James Taylor, and others it was Green Day.
As a transcriber I worked for Cherry Lane and Hal Leonard writing tablature and notation that accompanied the full albums for bands ranging from The Indigo Girls and Counting Crows, to Overkill and Voivod.
For the last 5+ years I have been doing custom transcriptions as a freelancer working for publishers, artists, and anyone who needs a song transcribed. Between gigs I help people on music forums and sites like Reddit by providing parts to songs they are having trouble figuring out on their own.
That brings us to the blog portion of this website. The songs I help people learn are either not available online or if they are available the existing tablature is not accurate. In some cases the comments and replies on other sites where I provided a transcriptions would get deleted or archived, I decided to take control of that and created a place where they could live indefinitely.
